? as you may well know, the obama administration is trying to get all of those people who voted for the president to come on board and say this is what we want and to press congress to make a deal but it is sort of hard to figure out what is fair. >> exactly. i said to my staff last week we need a big charge that shows the options and how much money is delivered or caused by each step we might take. i think for the most americans they have to know that no matter what we do, taxes are not going to go up on 98%, those people making less than $250,000 a year. where we go above that, i think our side is very, very necessity gloeshable. if there is a number that makes more sense, a half a million dollars to raise the marginal rate, a million dollars, we can look at that and we would be willing to do that and so far the republicans have not been willing to budget one inch on rates and again this is all a matter of semantics. it is not dollars so they ought to be willing to put everything on the table on the revenue side. >> what they might say is and let me get your answer. you said w

to defend the obama administration. >>wouldn't do it. this is opposite day. >> i actually think the president's, dare i say, i've been critical of hs his handling of the middle east and specifically the u.s. relationship with israel, i think he's handled this well. i completely reject this is commitly motivated or about american jewish vote or the election. there's one time he doesn't have to play to the american jewish community it's right now, and i think he recognizes that israel was unprovoked, that they are dealing with a government in gaza that the u.s. and the europeans all label a terrorist organization, 12 to 15,000 rockets sitting in gaza built up over years, israel's in the last few weeks been subjected to over a thousand of them, i think his assessments is, it's a really complicated issue. of course he's horrified by the deaths on both sides, but the idea that israel can't respond the way it's responding, is completely unreasonable. and i think he is handling it well and that he's focused on egypt. egypt is -- morsi is the lynchpen here. if there's any stabilization

after the financial crisis in the early days of the obama administration. crucially for the sec, she took office right after the exposure of the bernie madoff scandal. and the sec has been struggling to put the pieces together ever since then. take a look at some of the highlights over at the sec. the sec pointing out this morning that they've had more enforcement actions than ever before in the past two years. 735 actions in 2011 and 734 in 2012. and the sec is now engaged in one of the busiest rule-making periods in decades and pointing out that her response to the frash crash included requiring exchanges to create a consolidated audit trail. this is a pretty well rolled out announcement here today. we saw the leak to the "new york times," then the official announcement and then a few minutes ago, the sec put out an e-mail entitled some of the accomplishments under mary shapiro's tenure. also going to hear from a lot of the critics of the sec. some on the left saying she has not gone far enough. the sec has not gone far enough and some on the right saying that dodd/frank and the re

interested in status quo? >> one of the things the administration has come under a lot of fire for is it's been left focused on judicial nominations than it has been on electoral politics. at the level of the scoupreme court, of course president obama cares. if ginsburg leaves, harris might be a natural appointment. the real fireworks will begin if someone like justice kennedy or scalia leaves because that could change it to a majority liberal court. i think he'll go with a more conservative choice like judge merritt gar land on the d.c. circuit. i think the place to look for now is lower down, which is to say there are over 100 vacancies. keep in mind the federal judiciaries has about 870 members, so for that to be that many vacancies is striking and obama seems to care less about that than his predecessors. >> so to use a sports analogy, there needs to be a deep bench to fill the bench at the supreme court. kenji, great to have you here. happy thanksgiving to you and yours. >>> coming up, shoppers may be dealing with some extra crowds on black friday. we're talking about the protesters
